The story of Hela begins in Barmbek, Hamburg in the year 1905. Otto Hermann Laue, a merchant from Hamburg, takes over the limited liability company Carl H. Rose & Co. In 1906 he changes the company name to Hermann Laue, Hela for short. From that moment on, Hela has been a company that trades in herbs and spices.
